Credit Assistant – Recovery

Sheria Sacco Society Limited wishes to recruit a competent individual with knowledge and experience in Sharia-compliant financial products and services to fill the position of Credit Assistant – Recovery. This position will be based in Nairobi, Head Office.

Term of Service: Permanent and Pensionable, starting at Job Group SG7 of the Sheria Sacco Grades.

Reporting Structure: Reports to General Manager, Credit Department.

Position Purpose

Contact members with non-performing loan accounts (Substandard, Doubtful and Loss) and inform them of their debt and the various options available for repayment.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Locate and contact clients primarily through phone, email and mobile communication regarding overdue debts.
  • Negotiate payment plans and schedules that suit members’ financial situations while ensuring recovery of the debt.
  • Advise members on available payment options and possible recovery actions where no agreement is reached.
  • Maintain and update delinquent member files, including dates, times and details of communication.
  • Prepare and issue recovery notices and correspondence to members with overdue debts.
  • Contact guarantors of defaulting members and advise them on their obligations and available options.
  • Write to employers, debt collectors and lawyers where members fail to honor payment obligations.
  • Liaise with the Loan Recoveries and Monitoring Officer in preparing statements for lawyers, auctioneers, credit reference bureaus and debt collectors.
  • Perform any other duties assigned from time to time.

Competences, Skills and Academic Qualifications

Skills and Competencies

  • Demonstrable knowledge of Islamic finance principles and Sharia-compliant financial products.
  • Understanding of Sharia-compliant financing contracts including Murabaha, Ijarah, Musharakah, Mudarabah, Salam, Istisna and Qard Hasan.
  • Knowledge of Sharia governance, ethical financing principles and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong analytical, communication, negotiation and member relationship management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.
  • Data entry proficiency and ability to work with digital systems.
  • Good computer skills and familiarity with multiple software applications.
  • Basic mathematics and financial calculation skills.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • At least a Diploma in a relevant business-related field with mandatory knowledge of Islamic Finance and Sharia-compliant financial products and services.
  • Practical working experience in a SACCO, bank or Islamic financial institution involving Sharia-compliant financing, credit administration, recoveries or member advisory services will be an added advantage.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with formal qualifications or professional certifications in Islamic Finance, Shariah Review & Audit, Islamic Banking or related disciplines.
